Disappointment and Repentance   1 comment

Today … great intentions to do Super Repentance but it just didn’t happen due to me! Both of us were super keen and confident.  Arrived at the bottom to find two parties already on it (italian and german?) and another party to the right on a big fat icefall (which they proceeded to try and demolish!!). We waited.

The road to Repentance

First team abseiled off and second team were very slow. We both decided we could p*** up it and overtake the remaining team … so we set off. Mark did a good lead of the first pitch to a (oldish) two bolt belay. Apart from a self inflicted injury!

Mmm ... mental note to self ... must be more careful extracting ice axes

Great climbing on the first pitch

Great pitch! We moved the belay a little higher to a apair of brand 10mm bolts and maillons – the mixed moves to get to the belay were a little spicy to say the least! Anyhow – all set for the second pitch and my lead. racked up; ice screws cleaned; looks okay and off we go. All went well for a few meters;the climbing was good; confidence was there and we could probably get to the top in a pitch and a bit but then … I am not sure what it was – may be the spring-like warmth or the bits and pieces falling off to our right but I just started to get ‘bad vibes’ about the whole thing. I genuinely didn’t think it was a good idea to be where we were at present. We abseiled off. Disappointed but …

More great climbing but errm ... shall we go down!
